Kicking back over the weekend - Well not quite.

Quite the weekend. Yesterday me and Lydia followed a plume of smoke which dominated the east side of the city and found its source, a blazing apartment in the Ambelokopi district of Thessaloniki. Later on while shopping I saw a screaming child being rushed to an ambulance outside the supermarket where I had stopped. Today as we were eating an earthquake rattled the apartment but caused no damage. Turns out it was just a 3.4 one a few kilometres west of the city.

Don't worry, it's just an earthquake

Just felt a minor earthquake here, nothing serious, probably no more than three point something or just far away. Nothing like living in Greece to make you blase about such dangers. Since I've been here I've been in earthquakes, forest fires, riots and more traffic accidents than I care to mention.

That was scary. Just minutes ago the whole apartment began to shake and I dived out of the bedroom and onto the balcony. There must have been an earthquake somewhere in the vacinity and a pretty strong one at that. Half the neighbourhood have come out onto the street.

Just checked out the Greek blogs and it seems it was 4.o on the Richter scale, which is not much but it was very close to home and quite close to the surface, hence the dramatic effect. Luckily, it didn't last for long.

Sweet dreams? I think not.

Εarthquake ?

Well, that got my attention. We just had a minor earthquake here (4 or 5 on the Richter scale, I'd guess). Enough to rattle the flat, not to mention my nerves.
